Kazuyoshi Ishii

Kazuyoshi Ishii (石井和義,
1953 - ) was born in
Japan in
1953. He is most famous for founding The
K-1 fighting circuit; a martial event combining
Muay Thai,
Karate,
Kung Fu,
Tae Kwon Do and
Kenpo.
Kazuyoshi Ishii established the
Seidokan Karate school in
Osaka in 1980, with dojos and university-based karate clubs in the Kansai area. A few years later, the All Japan Karate-Do Tournament is held in
Osaka, organized by Ishii and Seido Kaikan, the new governing body for
Seidokan Karate.
In 1983, Ishii became the first Chairman of the newly formed "All Japan Budo (Martial Arts) Promotion Association". Five years later, two of his students,
Masaaki Satake and
Toshiyuki Yanagisawa finish first and second in the
Karate Real Champion Tournament, which sky-rocketed his fame. K-1's eight-year history began with the revolutionary vision of Japan's Kazuyoshi Ishii. A well-respected master of Seidokan Karate, Ishii had established the Seidokan Karate school in Osaka, Japan as well as a network of dojos and university-based karate clubs in the area of Kansai in 1980.
When
Kazuyoshi Ishii was 49, he was charged for violating Corporate Tax Law. He admitted to keeping a massive amount of funds off record. He faked a large amount of expenses, totaling more than 100 million yen. It is also thought that he committed tax evasion. Despite all this,
Black Belt Magazine (January 2003), awarded
Kazuyoshi Ishii by proclaiming him 'Man of the Year.'
But in 2003
Kazuyoshi Ishii, 49, former president of the Tokyo-based
K-1, under indictment on charges of corporate
tax evasion, was arrested on suspicion of concealing a further 530 million yen. in 2004,
Kazuyoshi Ishii, 50, is convicted and sentenced to 22 months in prison for tax evasion by the
Tokyo District Court. He is currently still jailed.
